Friday 8th
February 2018.
After one and a half
days sailing from Fortaleza in calm seas and clear blue skies we reached the
sea port and city of Salvador on the Brazilian coast. It was a warm and about
30 degrees.
Salvador is a slightly
smaller city than Fortaleza and is situated on hilly outcrops right on the sea
shore. It was impressive city as we came into port, however sadly the city
generally is in a similar shape as Fortaleza, old, rundown and in need of a
real good clean up.
We were unable to book
a land tour as they were all booked out prior to getting on the ship, so we
walked up to the city centre and the local markets. The city was getting ready
for their own “Carnivalie” in a couple of days time and colourful posters were
being erected around the city. It felt quite safe walking around the streets,
however street vendors were everywhere. The walk gave us a good insight of the
city, however after a couple of hours it became oppressively hot and we were
forced back to the ship for a late afternoon sailaway.
It was an interesting
day , but again a city which is not worth a revisit.
Our next port of call is Rio de Janeiro which we
are looking forward to as we havs a full day land excursionarranged to see the sights
